Wisdom teeth usually try to erupt from the ages of 18-21 years old, however they are commonly unable to come all the way through. This is usually because either there is no room for them orthey are tipped over on the wrong angle. Wisdom teeth in this situation will often cause pain and recurring infections in the gums around the teeth.
In these situations, removal of wisdom teeth is most often a necessity. While removal of wisdom teeth is usually not as straightforward as removal of other teeth, luckily we have dentists that are skilled in the removal of wisdom teeth. In many instances we are able to perform these procedures under local anaesthetic in a normal dental chair, however we are also able to organise for these to be done under general anaesthtic, where you are put to sleep for the procedure.
